Tips

How often should a piano be tuned?

Manufacturers recommend servicing your piano twice a year. Humidity control is the most critical factor in a piano’s tuning stability and overall health. A Dampp-Chaser climate control system will keep your piano well in tune between service calls.

Should I avoid placing my piano against an exterior wall?

This was true when houses weren’t as well insulated as they are today. All the same, it’s best to position your piano away from any heat sources as well as direct sunlight.

I need to move my piano. What should I do?

We recommend leaving this task to the experts! Moving a piano involves more than simply transporting the instrument from A to B. Some parts— for example, the legs and pedal assembly of a grand piano — may need to be removed. The Dampp-Chaser climate control system may also need to be emptied and secured.

I’m thinking of buying a used piano. Got any tips?

Don’t buy a used piano without having it first inspected by a professional piano technician! A piano with a damaged pinblock or broken cast-iron frame is generally a poor acquisition, since repairing will be too costly in terms of its overall value (unless it’s a particularly renowned brand). We will be happy to advise you.
