Repinning and Restringing
Maintaining tuning stability and optimal tone quality requires tight tuning pins and strings in good condition. When tuning pins become loose and begin to slip, the instrument will not stay in tune for long. When strings deteriorate and begin to break frequently, tonal quality also declines.
Signs of brittle strings and slipping pins suggest that repinning and restringing may help restore tuning stability and improve overall sound.
Loose pins are often caused by a dried-out pinblock rather than the pins themselves. Installing slightly oversized pins is an effective way to restore the torque to its original specification.

A complete set of new strings (bass and treble), along with new tuning pins, allows the piano to hold tuning more effectively and perform closer to its full potential. Professionally performed repinning and restringing significantly enhance overall performance.
A history of string breakage, missing or tied strings, and previous replacements are all indicators that a full set replacement is warranted. Rusted pins and strings (photo left) should also be considered for replacement.
